Instructions
1
Connect the storage unit that you wish to erase. Open "My Computer" from your "Start" menu.
2
Right-click the storage device to display all available options. Select the "Format" option from the menu.
3
Select the file system you wish to assign to the storage unit's memory. Use the "NTFS" option to store important and permanent data, such as a file system. Select "FAT" for devices with a capacity of two GB or less. Otherwise, select "FAT32" for units with more than four GB of capacity.
4
Clear or deselect the "Quick Format" option so that the formatting inspects the memory for possible sector errors. If the drive is functioning properly, check or enable the Quick Format to perform a quicker format.
5
Click "Start" to erase the memory from the storage unit. Allow approximately 15 to 30 seconds for the operation to commence. Click "Close" to shut down the "Format" menu.
