They would have to give you permission to access it and give you the password. Hacking is illegal, no matter how good your intentions are. If they care to share what is going on in their life, they will.

I agree it is wrong to snoop in anothers personal life, but you would feel different if it was a family member and there was no other way to find out and it could mean life or death.
I've been there. I do know. I worried for my brother the same way. He let me know when he was ready.

If you can't simply talk to the family member, how do you think you can interfere subtrafugally? You don't really think you would be helping, do you?
Now you are just making an impossible situation unbearable.
On top of all that, snooping into private matters is despicable. You create more animosity mistrust and problems.
