Find the IMEI number. This is a registration number that identifies your phone on a network. To find the IMEI number on an HTC phone, dial *#06# and hit "Enter." Record the 15-digit IMEI number.

Obtain an unlock code from a code provider. Links to some code providers are included in the Resources section. Typically you will have to enter your IMEI number to obtain the proper unlock code.

Remove the SIM card from your phone or put a SIM card from another provider into the HTC cell phone.

Power on the HTC phone. When the phone is powered on, type the 8-digit unlock code and press "Enter."

Replace a SIM card for your desired service carrier back in the phone. The phone will now accept a SIM card from any service provider that uses a SIM card.
