Disassembly
1
If your car is equipped with an air bag you must disconnect it before servicing any part of the steering column. Also disconnect the negative battery cable.
2
Remove the steering wheel and steering column covers to give better access to the ignition switch. Then remove the combination switch.
3
Disconnect the wiring harness from the ignition switch.
4
If necessary, lower the steering column.
5
The ignition switch is installed on the steering column using special screws. These screws have heads that are designed to break off during installation. Use the appropriate-sized drill bit to drill out the old screws.
6
Pull the ignition switch out of the steering column.
Installation
7
Slide the new ignition switch into the steering column and tighten the new screws until the heads break off.
8
Reinstall the combination switch and steering column cover.
9
Reinstall the steering wheel. Don't forget to reconnect the airbag.
10
Reconnect the ground cable to the negative battery terminal.
Tips & Warnings
The new ignition lock will use a different key than the one for your doors and trunk. If you want them all to use the same key, you'll have to get a matched set and replace all the locks together.
