@ducky..you know me too well!;-)....It`s a horrid condition!:-(...you end up living off nervous energy and would give ANYTHING for some decent sleep!:-¬...Permanently exhausted..and so don`t want to be!!;-)

Try to unwind .sometimes thinking of a problem keeps you a wake .Its hard try warm milk or a shower .I wish you a good nights sleep.

    Please don't "take" but instead....DO!

Daily exercise (work up a sweat), a warm bath before bed, turn off computers, televisions, telephones, ipods, etc.,  an hour before bedtime, read in bed.  In other words, quiet down before you get in bed and it will be easier to fall asleep.

    I`ll second the "DON`T TAKE"!!!:-¬

HMMM..SLEEP!...i wish i had the answer!..Let me know please if you find a miracle cure to insomnia!!....I`D love YOU FOREVER!!!:-)

Iv'e had insomnia for many years, have tried every natural, herbal remedy on the market, I've been so tired sometimes I think I'd sleep like a rock, never happens, I take medication (but not every night as they lose their effectiveness ) I would you consult your doctor if nothing works and perhaps visit a sleep clinic. You may also try to make your environment "sleep friendly" no electronic gadgets (T.V, computer etc) make sure you are comfortable and spend a little time winding down before going to bed

I would imagine that you are quite stressed from your job?

Lavender oil sprinkled on your pillow gives a soothing calm effect for a peaceful nights sleep.

    Hi,

    It depends on personal taste.

    Warm milk,

A walk from ten minutes in nature,

Here me talk for ten minutes, ;)

Have you baby music box you use to sleep on,

Count sheep's (warning: If you still counting at 999 there is something wrong),

Have a nice cup of tea f.i. Valerian, Passionflower, Chamomile or Lavender,

Record the speech of a person you always fall a sleep with,

There are more ways, so maybe one can add some more to this.

If nothing works maybe you should see an arts if sleeping is really needed.

    Greetings and uhhh, sleep well.

Count sheep...but they all have names! (It's a doolittle's dilema). Now counting boring people that's easy!!!

I am an insomniac and that is because I am firing kilns in the middle of the night, controlling drying times of pots or getting up to take plant pots off molds before they crack and break.  I am always thinking about the next project or glaze or art piece.

I grab sleep whenever I can and this is what I do... I meditate.  I completely relax my entire body one body part at a time and then shut my brain down.  It is the only thing that works for me... I have tried everything else.  If I didn't do this... I would never sleep.  A few days of not sleeping can turn a person into a nut, let me tell you and not a fun kind of nut.  Nooooooo.  A completely loony kind of nut.

    Good Luck.

    I become a cranky nut!

Thanks Fishie ..that certainly sounds worth trying...I`m off my head at the moment with lack o sleep..usually I just get by!!XX

If you find out be sure to let me know immediately!

Melatonin is a natural sleep aide. I myself take Zolpidem but you need a doctor's help with that. Start with him.....

    millie111

Melatonin is meant for short term use..or to prevent jet lag..in the long run it can give s/affects such as terrible headaches...(My Dr.almost freaked when I tried it for a few months..the trouble is..that whatever you take that is prescribed or otc..should only be for very short term usage!..I agree Julie..people need to see their Dr`s...then there is at least a chance of treating underlying causes of insomnia!:-?

I didn't realize that about Melatonin. I wouldn't recommend it for every night though. He/she just asked for immediate sleeping aid. I hope they have more sense than to over use it......
    millie111

Hey Julie, sorry I wasn`t criticizing you...I loved it when I first took it,just not realizing that it`s potentially bad if used regularly...I was doing fine until I got the most horrendous headaches..which is when I consulted GP!:-¬...No one advertises it as bad..I thought I`d done all the research on it..I think it IS fine FOR MOST people occasional use!!;-)xx

I have never slept for over 2 hours in a row without waking up! If there is a cure- sign me up! I have tried everything!

Sound's like Thomas Jefferson. I wake up a lot- but I'm nowhere as nearly inventive in the middle of the night as Thomas was.

I was going to suggest Melatonin, too.

Perhaps you should discuss the situation

with your physician first though, to get the all

    clear. Good luck.

I do not know, but if you are a man, a jump seems to work well for most of them.  ;-)
