Harry spent 1/2 of his money on a number of muffins and 3/5 of the remaining money on 5 pieces of cakes. Each piece of cake costs thrice as much as a muffin. How many muffins did he buy?

Dude#, go to the homework site; http://www.khanacademy.org/

We are on a homework break.

Let's say he had $1.00   1/2 of that would be 50 cents.  Of the remaining 50 cents 3/5 of  that was spent on the 5 cakes; that would be 30 cents (3/5 of 50 cents is 30 cents).  Each cake would cost 6 cents (6 x 5).  If a cake  costs 3x a muffin, then a muffin only costs 2 cents (6/3 = 2)   Spending 50 cents on muffins that cost 2 cents each would be 25 muffins (50/2) .

well set out, wish i could buy muffins for 2 cents.

It sounds as though Harry needs a healthier diet! All that sweet stuff will have him the size of a house, if he's not careful!
