    8x + 5y = 5

    3x + 3y = 9

    Lets start with the second equation first and solve for  x:

    3x  +  3y  =  9

    3x  +  3y  -  3y  =  9  -  3y

    3x  =  9  -  3y

    Divide by 3 to get x by itself.

    3x/3  =  9/3  -  3y/3

    x  =  3  -  y

    Put  x  value in the first equation.  >  8x  +  5y  =  5 and solve for y:

    8(3  -  y) + 5y  =  5

    24  - 8y  +  5y  =  5

    24  - 3y  =  5

    24 - 24 - 3y  =  5 - 24

    -3y  =  -19

    Divide by  -3 to get  y  by itself.

    -3y/-3  =  -19/-3

    y  =  19/3

    Put  y  value in the second equation    >   3x  +  3y  =  9  and solve for  x.

    3x  +  3(19/3)  =  9

    3x  +  19  =  9

    3x  +  19 - 19  =  9 - 19

    3x  =  -10

    Divide by  3 to get  x by itself.

    3x/3  =  -10/3

    x  =  -10/3

    Answer:  x  =  -10/3   and   y  =  19/3
