    why is my 3 wood headcover marked with an x on it

    @tenner.ross....I have been golfing for almost 20 years.  I will attempt to explain further.  According to your comment, you have never seen a club cover marked with a "3"?  Unless someone is giving you their left over club covers (nothing wrong with that), that would seem to me, to be impossible.  I reiterate.  The (1) is for your driver, the (3) is for your 3-wood, the X is for whatever "other" wood that you carry in your bag. Why?  Every golfer carries a driver (1), most often, a golfer also carries a 3-wood (3), then it varies.  Some golfers carry a 5-wood, some carry a 7-wood, or some "other wood", hence the "X" (as in unknown).     It's no easy feet...er..I mean feat!!! :)

    Usually you have 1, 3, X....the one is for your driver....3 for 3-wood of course, X for whatever other wood you use (I believe)

    All my 3 woods have always come with a X never a 3
    I have 1,X,5,&7 but no 3 & can't find out what the X stands for
