      Canceling a Credit Card hurts your Credit Rating, even if, you've paid promptly and/or it's paid-off, YES it's stupid but, that's the way the ball bounces!!!  Your better paying it off and then, just sit on it for rating purposes.

          You used to be able to call them.  Now I believe you have to put it in writing.  Call the number on the back of your credit card.  I found a website that may help you:
