    The expansion of ignited gas in the piston cylinder of the engine turns the cam shaft, which drives the drive shaft which is ultimately hooked up to the wheels through a transmission and differential (rear wheel drive), or a trans axle (front wheel drive).
    this explosion of gas happens hundreds of times a second to produce sufficient rpms.
