    Oops! I got -8 - (-6) = -14 or negative 2 (-2), I'm too old for this stuff. I'll leave it to you, Bob...

    -8 - (6) = -2


    Let's say you owe Joe $8. Joe says, forget about the $6 I loaned you for lunch the other day. That will be my treat. 


    The $6 debt (-6) is subtracted from what you owe Joe, and now you only owe him $2.  When you see a problem where there are two negatives, such as in your example, put them together and make them a + sign.  -8 - (-6) = -8 + 6 = -2
