Don't talk about anything that is outside of your own personal business. Sometimes it is hard to have a lot of people telling you personal things because it tends to build up inside, especially the sad things. I have a salon and most people come to empty their business on me because they know it goes nowhere else. I have learnt to listen but immediately after they leave the salon, so does what they say. It can bring you down to hold on to things. It is a wonderful feeling to have so many people trust and appreciate you are there to listen but not judge, it gives them a form of therapy. I know at the end of the day I have helped a lot of people but would NEVER repeat anything.

I'm not really very good at that. What would help is for me to acutely aware of the fact that I don't want anybody repeating things I say. Another is to know that if a rumor starts because you've repeated something, YOU are going to be ostracized. Then, it won't be a problem maintaining confidentiality because NOBODY IS GOING TO TALK TO YOU!!!

I realized many years ago that men are actually bigger gossips then women. My business is 99% men, and not one can keep a secret. It actually brings me more work, so keep on talking guys.
