    Subtract from 7 + 7/8 and you get 4 + 5/8.

    Change the 1/4 to 2/8 (lowest common denominator for /4 and /8 is /8; multiply 1/4 x 2   2/8)


    7/8 - 2/8 = 5/8
    7 - 3 = 4


    4 5/8 

    4 5/8.
