Very frequently, some well-known person makes a remark which attracts widespread odium, often because it's racist, otherwise because it's gratuitously insulting or otherwise crass. When it gets flung in their faces, they complain that they's been 'quoted out of context'. Two very recent offenders are Diane Abbott and David Hockney. Would anyone like to suggest a context into which they could all be flung, together, to comiserate with each other?

If Diane Abbot was white she would have been sacked for Tweeting as she did. Can you fill me in as to what David Hockney said or did?

Umbriel Hockney rubbished Damien Hirst for letting other people 'complete' his works - Hirst uses a 'factory', much as did Warhol. Hockney subsequently backed down, using the 'out of context' bit. I can't see why, because Hockney is even older than I am, and filthy rich.

Do I need to Google Diane and David? Is this something important I/we should know about? Sounds like the presidential campaigns going on right now. Smear campaigns.

Umbriel Diane and David are both English. She is a prominent socialist politician, he is a very popular artist, now living in California. I didn't need to google them myself, but I'm sure you'll find plenty of material if you do.
